  • Goals and Educatee Learning Outcomes

    1. The graduate will exist able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Advice Studies

    The communication studies concentration provides students with a deep understanding of the axis of advice in personal, professional, civic and global contexts.

    Faculty members draw on their professional expertise in cultural, intercultural, interpersonal, and organizational communication besides as rhetoric to help students acquire practical, belittling and critical thinking skills as they engage in an increasingly diverse and globalized world.

    Students learn how to research topics using credible sources, develop and organize ideas, tailor effective letters for a variety of audiences, and effectively evangelize written and oral presentations. In improver to providing conflict management and problem-solving skills, the curriculum includes courses designed to help students learn how to analyze organizational, public, interpersonal, and cultural advice; argue convincingly; and respond constructively, respectfully and ethically.

    Advice studies courses encourage students to get responsible communicators, disquisitional thinkers, and engaged participants in creating a but, environmentally conscious and equitable society. Several courses explore how race, class, gender, and sexuality shape experiences and perceptions of deviation in organizations, the surround, and national/international public communication.

    The communication studies concentration provides a competitive advantage in professional and/or academic careers. Employers consistently rank oral and written advice skills, critical thinking, and the ability to work with diverse populations as the well-nigh desired characteristics for future employees. Communication studies students larn how to market themselves in whatever profession including man resource, health communication, business organisation, sales, marketing, advertising, media and politics.

    Mass Media

    The concentration in mass media focuses on the production, consumption and theoretical analysis of media messages inside the context of the evolving fields of journalism and mass communication. The curriculum encourages students to get critical thinkers and mass media practitioners utilizing foundational impress and broadcast journalistic practices as well equally new media technologies.

    In addition, students are exposed to hypothetical and real-world situations that challenge them in problem solving, inventiveness, ideals and mass communication history and theory.

    Public Relations

    The public relations concentration uses the report and application of traditional and emerging manufacture tools and strategies for constructive communication and relationship building between organizations and their publics.   • Dr. Warren Bareiss is the internship coordinator for the advice concentrations and has established contacts throughout the Upstate that do good our students each semester. Students interested in a communication internship for form credit should contact Dr. Bareiss for additional information and to explore electric current openings and opportunities.
